About Us

The Sorensen Insurance Agency can be traced back to 1962 when it was founded by Doug Sorensen’s uncle, Donald Seitz of Wapakoneta, Ohio. In 1978, Doug purchased the agency from his uncle and formed Sorensen Insurance Agency, strictly specializing in Crop Insurance dedicated to the American Farmer. In 2009, the agency moved to a new, more convenient location at  6 E Main Street in Wapakoneta, and in January of 2010 launched a brand new website.  Today, the Sorensen Insurance Agency is still a family business run by, Doug's son, Chris Sorensen, and daughter, Jill Sparks. (Chris and Jill are 4th generation family members to sell crop insurance.)

Sorensen Insurance Agency specializes in writing Crop Insurance in 26 Ohio counties and 3 Indiana counties, covering corn, soybeans, wheat, popcorn, tomatoes and potatoes. Being in the crop insurance business we have come to know many communities, its growers and producers, families and farms; all of our customers are either the farmer or the landlord.

To provide the best coverage options we specialize in “Multi-Peril Crop Insurance” or MPCI and Crop Hail Insurance. MPCI provides protection against a loss in yield due to natural causes. For most crops, this includes drought, excess moisture, cold and frost, wind, flood and unavoidable damage from insects and plant disease. Most plans guarantee a yield based on the individual producer’s actual production history. If the production to count is less that the yield guarantee the insured will be paid a loss.

We also offer flexible coverage designed to protect crops from damaging weather conditions, such as hail or fire, during specified coverage periods. These Named Peril products are recommended as supplements to an MPCI policy, an individual crop-hail policy or as a stand alone policy. Named Peril policies are designed to cover gaps in other coverage such as hazards unique to specific crops, unavailability of MPCI programs or crop-hail coverage in your area and Processor coverage.
